A fire ripped through businesses on midland Ave ext yesterday. The call came in at approximately 10:50 am. Middletown fireman were on the scene into late Thursday night trying to extinguish the hot spots that were left. There were no injuries reported. Thank you to all the mutual aid companies who responded or stood by
Middletown Firemen will be out in full force Halloween Night. The apparatus will be in their normal areas, but due to the covid pandemic, candy will NOT be distributed this year. The fireman will be present to provide safety to the citizens of the city.
The Middletown Fire Department had their awards presentation tonight October 20, 2020 at the Fireman’s Statue in downtown middletown. Members of the common council along with Mayor Joe DeStefano were present. Chief Don Luis and his Board of Engineers presented Leighton Williams, Lt. With the McQuoid Engine And Ladder Company No 3 with the 2019 Firefighter of the year award. Bill Kelder, department treasurer and member of the Phoenix Engine Co no 4 was presented with the 2019 Officer of the year Award and Dustin Ryder Lt. From the Monhagen Hose Company No 1 was presented with a new award, Rookie of the year 2019. Congratulations to these members for a fine job!

The Middletown Fire Department will hold their Annual Inspection on Friday October 8, 2020 starting at 6 pm. The departments Board of Engineers along with city officials will inspect the 3 firehouses in the city. The Middletown Fire Department consists of 5 Engines and 2 Ladders. The department is a combination of Paid and Volunteer firefighters. The Annual Inspection Parade had been cancelled due to the Covid Pandemic. The department is looking forward to a parade in 2021.
Middletown fireman trained today with Pocatello-Mt. Hope and Howells Fire Depts. on tanker shuttle. The primary source of water for Middletown is a fire hydrant. Pocatello-Mt.Hope and Howells depend on a portable pond where water is drafted to fight a fire. The tankers respond to a fill site and then drive to the portable pond and dump their water. It was a great training day for all!
On September 9,2020 Middletown FD was dispatched to a structure fire at 16 Highland Ave. Upon arrival of the first engine a 2nd alarm was dispatched. With such heavy fire upon arrival more water was needed and a 3rd alarm was dispatched to bring water from a different water grid. Middletown FD would like to thank all the mutual aid that assisted us to fight this fire. Middletown Firemen responded to a reported structure Fire at approximately 4 am this morning at 7 Wells Ave. The fire was confined to the basement of the structure. 2 Engines and a ladder responded to the scene with a ladder from Slate Hill on standby. There were no injuries reported. The fire is under investigation by OC Fire Investigators And Middletown Police.
At 15:40 Middletown FD was dispatched to a structure fire at 19 Houston Ave. A 2nd alarm was called upon arrival. Thank You to Pocatello, Howells and Mechanicstown for stand by in our quarters. Also thank you to Silverlake/Circleville FAST, Mobile Life, 36-11, OC 911 for your assistance.
Middletown Fire Department Chief Don Luis postponed the Tri annual MFD Inspection parade this week due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that the parade will be held next year at a date to follow. This years parade was scheduled for October 10, 2020.
Over the years all have heard of cell phones catching on fire and have seen pictures wether social media or magazines but the Middletown FD saw its first cell phone fire with burns to bed spread, carpet and the patience hand. As they say It’s real !
Howells Fd responds for the house on fire. Upon arrival members were faced with a well advanced fire and light weight construction. An interior attack was made till the roof collapsed and units backed out to operate ? defensively till it was safe for Re entry. Thank you to all the mutual aid companies that assisted Howells Fd this morning.
At 19:11 hours Middletown FD was dispatched to a structure fire at Park Hill Apartments. Upon arrival fire was visible from one of the apartments. At the time of the fire it was very windy which caused the fire to spread quickly. Because of the type of construction with common ceilings it made fire easier to spread to adjoining apartments. Great work by all firefighters on the scene. Thank You to Circleville/Silverlake Fasteam who was put to work when Pocatello Fasteam was called to the scene. Thank You to Mechanicstown and Howells who stood by in our quarters for the duration till units returned and back in service. City of Middletown Mayor Joe DeStefano sent out the following important notice to the citizens of the city of Middletown NY
At 00:44 hours Middletown FD was dispatched to a working fire on Smith St. First units on scene requested a 2nd alarm. Car 1 arrived on scene and at 00:46 hours and at 00:57 brought in Middletown Engine 6 for 3rd alarm to hit another hydrant on Low Ave and come in to rear of structure. At 01:36 Howells 111 was brought in from stand by to the scene for 4th alarm and hit hydrant on Wickham Ave. Thank You to Mechanicstown FD, Pocatello FD, Circleville Fast, 36-17, Mobile Life, Red Cross, OC-911 and all our members for all the assistance for this fire.
The city of Middletown civil service is offering the firefighter exam # 68-857010. Applications must be received by March 23, 2020 by 12 noon. The fee is $40.00. Applications can be picked up at the Middletown Civil Service Commission. The written test will be held on April 25, 2020.
The Middletown Fire Department will hold their Inspection parade on October 10, 2020. Lineup will be at 1 pm and the parade steps off at 2 pm. Outgoing Chief Don Luis will be the Grand Marshal.
The Middletown Fire Dept received their new Ladder Truck on Monday January 13, 2020. The mid mount Ariel with a bucket should be in service by the end of the month.
